Ted is a shy boy with a record collection. Dylan is the artist he’s always hoped would turn up and make his life more interesting. She loves being looked at as though she’s extraordinary, and his apparent stability has its attractions too. But when Dylan’s mental health deteriorates, she struggles to keep being the person they both want her to be.

Teddy Midnight follows the love story past the point where the romantic comedy usually ends. Dylan hasn’t recognised her neurodivergence yet, and her bisexuality remains largely unexplored. Being somebody’s dream girl is, for a while, easier than working herself out. Ted would be quite happy for it to stay that way.

Teddy Midnight was developed during a week-long R&D residency at Exeter Phoenix in October 2022 as part of Exeter Fringe Festival, culminating in a rehearsed reading.
